"Going by respondents’ admissions, untouchability is the most widespread among Brahmins, followed by OBCs. Among religious communities, it is the most widespread among Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, shows the survey, which was conducted in over 42,000 households across India by the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) and the University of Maryland, US."
Biggest caste survey: One in four Indians admit to practising untouchability

" This field experiment study of job applications observed a statistically significant pattern by which, on average, college-educated lower-caste and Muslim job applicants fare less well than equivalently-qualified applicants with high caste Hindu names, when applying by mail for employment in the modern private-enterprise sector. The only aspect of family background that was communicated in these applications was the applicant’s name, yet this was enough to generate a different pattern of responses to applications from Muslims and Dalits, compared to high caste Hindu names. These were all highly educated and appropriately qualified applicants attempting to enter the private sector, yet even in this sector, caste and religion proved influential in determining one’s job chances."
"The study findings suggest that social exclusion is not just a residue of the past clinging to the margins of the Indian economy, nor is it limited to people of little education. On the contrary, it appears that caste favouritism and the social exclusion of Dalits and Muslims have infused private enterprises even in the most dynamic modern sector of the Indian economy"

"It isn't about me being privileged compared to others from my caste in villages, it is about me having to struggle the most among the people who had a similar upbringing. Even though I went to an good school and lived in a good neighbourhood, we were the only tenants, my parents were the least educated among them and we were the only ones who didn't have any property to speak of. Everyone else in that neighbourhood, didn't have to worry about these. They had enough connections to get to the places they wanted to, had enough property which allowed them to take admission to the best colleges around the world and explore the best academic avenues. This is what privilege is. "
And further claiming that reservation is inequality is like breaking the legs of a man and then challenging him to run a race by saying that-
"Ok well, I know that you have been treated unfairly in the past but from today lets end all the discrimination. I won't beat you anymore. Let's run a race together, fairly"
